Coping with loss (Bereavement, Separation etc)
Counselling can help you cope with grief and mourning following the death of a loved one, major life changes or transitions that trigger feelings of loss (e.g, separation, divorce, empty nest).
Everyone experiences loss in their own way. You may feel that you have withdrawn from friends and family and feel helpless, lonely and angry and unable to see that life after the loss can be lived fully.
Very often people have to deal with practical issues of survival or have to be the strong one and hold the family together or experience shock. It may be that the full effects of the loss are not experienced until months or even years after the event. Counselling can help you work through your grief whether it’s recent or from the past.
Relationship & Family Difficulties
Family relationships alter over time and accommodating change can be difficult and can lead to feelings of disappointment, resentment or anger etc. Renegotiating our family relationships can be problematic and learning to speak up for ourselves can be seen as selfish or damaging to the family system. In counselling you can talk through these issues and work out the best way of managing to live the life you want while also keeping the people you want in your life.
